Hampar Karageozian, Ph.D, MBA
Hampar Karageozian is a co-founder of Vitreoretinal Technologies, Inc. and serves as the company's CEO. He has over 35 years of experience in ophthalmic research, development, manufacturing, regulatory and marketing. As Senior VP of Research and Development at Allergan Pharmaceuticals, he managed a budget of over $100 million and was directly involved in the development and launch of more than 50 products during his 23-year tenure. His responsibilities included the expansion of Allergan's presence in both the European and Japanese markets. Mr. Karageozian was a co-founder, Senior VP of R&D and CTO of ISTA Pharmaceuticals. In addition, he is a prolific inventor with over 25 domestically and internationally issued patents.


Vicken Karageozian, MD
Vicken Karageozian is a co-founder of Vitreoretinal Technologies, Inc. and serves as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Medical Officer. He is a Board Certified ophthalmic surgeon. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at University of California, Irvine. Dr. Karageozian graduated from the University of California, San Diego with double majors in biochemistry and economics. He received his MD from Tufts University in Boston and completed his ophthalmic training at the University of California, Irvine. He has over 10 years experience in ophthalmic drug development with such companies as Allergan Pharmaceuticals and ISTA Pharmaceuticals. He has been involved with several successful startup companies. He has numerous U.S. and international patents. His particular experience and strengths relate to pharmaceuticals of the posterior segment of the eye.


Ramgopal Rao, MSEE, MBA
Ramgopal Rao serves as Chief Operating Officer for Vitreoretinal Technologies, Inc. He is an entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in the ophthalmic market and has worked with several successful startup companies. Mr Rao most recently developed a corneal implant device for presbyopia which is licensed to (venture funded) Acufocus, Inc. He founded Tomey Technology, Inc., an ophthalmic imaging instrumentation company that grew to $50 million sales volume in four years. Tomey pioneered the corneal topography mapping systems that are now a standard in eye care. Mr. Rao was President of Ophthalmic Group at Premier Laser Systems, Inc. He holds a MSEE from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from Northeastern University.


John Park, Ph.D
John Park is Vice President of Chemistry and Manufacturing at Vitreoretinal Technologies, Inc. He has over 32 years of experience in ophthalmic research, development and manufacturing. He worked for the biological sciences group at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories, California Institute of Technology, in Pasadena, California. He also worked with Professor J. L. Beauchamp in chemistry as a post doctorate at Cal Tech. Dr. Park worked at McGaw Pharmaceuticals for eight years as a senior research scientist responsible for product development research. He also worked at Allergan Pharmaceuticals for 15 years as a Principal Scientist and Manager, and was responsible for programs in drug delivery and development of liposome technologies, as well as drug discovery in cataract research. He is a prolific inventor with over 20 domestically and internationally issued patents.


Philip N. Calvillo
Philip Calvillo joined Vitreoretinal Technologies, Inc. in 2007 and serves as the Senior Director of Clinical Affairs. He has more than 25 years of related experience as a clinical research professional in U.S. FDA-regulated industries in Phase I, II and III clinical studies. He has held various global clinical-project management positions at pharmaceutical companies including Allergan, ISTA Pharmaceuticals, Prometheus Labs, Alliance Pharmaceuticals, Newport Pharmaceuticals and Alpha Therapeutics. Mr. Calvillo has successfully led multinational clinical research teams in the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific regions. With more than 10 years clinical research experience in ophthalmology for intravitreal and retinal product development, Mr. Calvillo has worked in uveitis, diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage, diabetic macula edema, RVO and glaucoma.
