Vitreosolve^® vitreous liquefaction as an adjunct to pars plana vitrectomy surgery

Vitreosolve^®is a product developed to liquefy the vitreous gel prior to vitrectomy surgery. Vitrectomy surgery is routinely performed for advanced diabetic eye disease, retinal detachments, eye trauma, complicated cataract surgeries, and severe eye infections. Vitreosolve^® has been shown to dramatically reduce surgery-related complications, improve surgical outcome and dramatically lower surgical time.

The Procedure
Vitrectomy is the surgical removal of the vitreous gel from the eye.

The Opportunity
Vitrectomy is a time-consuming and difficult procedure performed for serious sight-threatening conditions.

The Solution
Results from clinical trials completed to date suggest that Vitreosolve^® may improve the vitreous removal and surgical success by liquefying vitreous gel. Additional clinical trials are planned for 2009.
