VITREOSOLVE®
In clinical development for preventative treatment of
diabetic retinopathy
Diabetes is a vascular disease that affects nearly 10% of the US population. Diabetic eye disease involves loss of adequate vascular supply to the back of the eye resulting in bleeding, inappropriate blood vessel growth, and severe vision loss or blindness. No preventative treatment alternatives are available.
The Disease
Patients with diabetic retinopathy suffer from bleeding and abnormal blood vessels in the eyes leading to blindness. There are few treatments to reduce the damage of this terrible condition.
The Opportunity
Current treatments for diabetic retinopathy (e.g., laser, vitrectomy) only treat the disease once severe diabetic retinopathy develops. No treatment currently prevents diabetic retinopathy.
The Solution
Results from the completed Phase I and II clinical trials to date suggest that Vitreosolve® treatment may greatly decrease the development of diabetic retinopathy. The drug is currently being studied in Phase III trials in the United States, India and Mexico.
